EPR Guidelines

Categories Of Tyres Under EPR

Rigid package plastic
Category I

Rigid package plastic

Rigid package plastic.

Shredded / Chipped Tyres
Category II

Flexible plastic packaging

Tyres mechanically broken down into 1-inch to 2-inch pieces used as tire-derived fuel (TDF) for cement kilns.

Crumb Rubber
Category III

Multilayered plastic packaging

Fine rubber granules (from 1 to 5 mm) with all steel and fiber removed. It is highly prized for making rubberized asphalt for roads.

Micronised Rubber Powder (MRP)
Category IV

Compostable plastics

Extremely fine mesh powder used to manufacture new rubber products.

India's EPR Roadmap for Tyres

1. Registration

Every tyre producer, importer, and brand owner must register with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under the Plastic Waste Management Rules.

2. Collection Targets

Mandatory collection of 60% of plastic packaging waste by weight, scaling to 100% over the compliance cycle as per CPCB phase-wise targets.

3. Reporting & Audits

Quarterly returns, annual compliance reports, and third-party audits to ensure complete transparency and accountability across the plastic value chain.

4. Extended Responsibility

Producers are responsible for the entire lifecycle—from collection and sorting to recycling, co-processing, or energy recovery.

The Process

From Waste to Wealth

Scroll through our end-to-end plastic recycling value chain.

1. Collection

Aggregating plastic packaging waste from households, commercial establishments, and municipal streams across India.

Logistics

2. Sorting

Automated and manual sorting by polymer type (PET, HDPE, PP, LDPE, etc.) using NIR and density-based separation.

Mechanical

3. Washing & Shredding

Hot and cold washing to remove impurities, adhesives, and labels, followed by shredding into clean plastic flakes.

Processing

4. Recycling & Extrusion

Melting and filtering the clean flakes into high-quality recycled plastic granules (PCR - Post Consumer Resin).

Transformation

5. Circular Output

PCR granules are used to manufacture new packaging, textiles, or products, completely closing the loop.

What We Recover

rPET Pellets

Food-grade and industrial recycled PET resin for beverage bottles, textile fibers, and strapping.

Pyrolysis Oil

Recovered fuel oil from mixed plastic waste, used in industrial heating and power generation.

Plastic Lumber

Durable, weather-resistant lumber from mixed recycled plastics for decking, furniture, and fencing.

Syngas

Synthesis gas from gasification of non-recyclable plastics, powering circular energy systems.

National Impact

India's Plastic Waste Challenge

India generates over 3.4 million tonnes of plastic waste annually. With rapid urbanization and a booming consumer economy, EPR compliance is not just a regulation—it's a national imperative.

Maharashtra 28% of plastic waste
Tamil Nadu 16% of plastic waste
Gujarat 14% of plastic waste
Uttar Pradesh 12% of plastic waste

Why You Must Act Now (Lessons from 2025)

⏱️

Early Preparation is Key

Many PIBOs underestimated the time required to collect, validate, and categorize packaging data. Those who began early met deadlines with confidence.

💡 Engage data owners early

📊

Finance Teams Need Forecasting

EPR fees are now a measurable line item. Collaboration between sustainability, legal, and finance is critical.

💡 Align budgets & cycles

🎯

Packaging Data Accuracy Matters

Many producers struggled with inaccurate weights or missing supplier data, leading to massive financial risks.

💡 Use 3rd-party expert reviews

🧩

Complex Portfolios Need Tailored Approaches

Multi-brand companies face challenges consolidating packaging data across varying material types and categories.

💡 Require a customized data model
